Laughing Gas

Laughing Gas

Nitrous Oxide or “laughing gas”

is a safe and effective sedative agent that mixes with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose to help you relax. If you are very nervous, Nitrous Oxide (NO2), often called “laughing gas,” is one option that we offer here at Markhamack Family Dentistry to help make you more comfortable during your dental treatment. Therefore it is not intended to put you to sleep, you are fully awake and conscious and will be able to hear and respond to any requests or directions the dentist may have. Your dentist will ask you to breathe normally through your nose, and within a few short minutes, you should start to feel the calming effects of Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas). You may feel light-headed or a tingling in your arms and legs. Some people say their arms and legs feel heavy. Above all, you should feel calm and comfortable. The effects of Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) sedation wear off soon after the mask is removed, and you are able to continue your day as normal; you can drive yourself back home in most cases there are no major lingering side effects that will deter you from continuing your normal daily routine.
